Analysis of incorrect road markings - Southend
I opened the Google map to see the level of safety that Southend-on-Sea’s road architecture offers.
1. First, I see a lot of wasted, unused space, which reduces the distance to change directions for those inside the roundabout. At a high traffic flow, this roundabout will be completely blocked.
2. Second, some specialists confuse the dashed guide lines and draw them where there should be dashed lines for the stop limit, in case it is necessary to give priority.
Correct markings should look like this.
3. Some specialists do not know what the directions are in the roundabout and put road markings incorrectly and confusingly, the direction arrows.
A. The forward direction in the Roundabout, is the gyratory direction, the circular direction, or the direction of rotation! If you go around the roundabout all day, you go only in the forward direction.
B. The direction to the left is represented by the roundabout exits.
C. The direction to the right does not exist in the roundabout.
4. I notice that there are no continuous lane lines at the entrance to the roundabout, but it is probably allowed to change lanes at the entrance to the intersection. I hope that there are not many who do this and that the number of accidents in Southend-on-Sea is still low.
And the Yield markings were probably either not invented in Southend-on-Sea, or some specialists ignored the importance of these very important markings. I explained on my blog, in a video, how important these markings are. I hope you have the patience to read and understand.
The correct architecture for this roundabout would be Smart Roundabout©.
